Slate technology is very much talk of the technology town. Apple is set to unveil its iSlate tablet device later this month, but it looks like Microsoft will be the first to make a move with its own tablet.

According to those in the know, today Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will present to the world its tablet computer at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The product is to be made by Hewlett-Packard, and supposedly available as early the middle of this year. It's said to be a 'multimedia whiz with e-reader and multi-touch functions' a source for the New York Times said.

Going by previous experience, Apple is notorious for pulling something special out of the bag, so there's some pressure on Microsoft to ensure its product can stand up.

We'll be sure to let you know how the presentation unfolds.
