Japan can also expect a camouflaged PSP

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will include singing weapons

There's been some not-so-quiet news regarding Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker recently.

According to a Konami press release, Snake's latest outing will include a Mother Base where players can amass the soldiers they have recruited in the game and expand said base to "access new functions".

The Mother Base is essentially a personal hub for all your weapons, items and captured personnel to be stored in, as well as where armament developments can be made. That much we do know but how the captured soldiers part works remains open to interpretation.

Frankly, at the moment we're more fascinated by the promise of weapons that can sing and speak. "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker also introduces new AI Weapons - giant unmanned behemoths that Snake must overcome to complete his mission," says Konami's announcement.

"These include hover, airborne, and tank-style vehicles. Each AI Weapon can speak and even sing during battle using VOCALOID technology, hinting at a surprising level of intelligence."

In more familiar revelations, the publisher also announced three-versus-three multiplayer ad-hoc battles, which will sit nicely alongside the already demoed four-player cooperative mode. And is considerably more straightforward to digest as a concept than 'VOCALOID' technology (hopefully it's something new that could bring a bit more variety to the series).

In related news, Konami will also be releasing a PSP bundle in Japan featuring a camouflaged PSP-3000, which is rather cool – until you lose it in a forest, of course.

The bundle also includes a camouflaged cloth and a plain green case for keeping the handheld safe.

And because you can never have too much Snake in your gaming diet, there will also be a limited edition version of the game that will apparently cost more than a PS3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 combined. That's what you'll have to pay if you want the unique Peace Walker PSP stand, dog tag and booklet.

Will the US and UK get the same bundle treatment? We shall have to wait (in the shadows) and see.
