New Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker details and screenshots emerge from the shadows

Could this be Snake's finest PSP mission?

New Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker details and screenshots emerge from the shadows

The Tokyo Game Show has kicked off in Japan and one of the major announcements from it comes in the form of new screenshots and, more excitingly, a video for Konami's latest PSP title, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

(There's even a Peace Walker PSP demo doing the rounds, if you want to try the game out for yourself.)

From what we've seen, Snake is back and the story picks up somewhere between the PSP's Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and the first PlayStation game.

Snake and his team have been drafted in to help with the Cuban Missile Crisis and although unwilling at first, Snake's conscience gets the better of him and he decides to take on the mission. What a nice chap.

First impressions? Well we can't help but feel impressed. Everything looks very polished, right from the graphical detail and the animations to the sound effects and voice acting. Pardon the pun but it all looks very… solid.

There has been no skimping on the quality of the cut-scenes and narrative either, meaning we should be in for another dramatic, narrative treat. As with previous titles, it's almost like playing a movie and, according to reports, the cut-scenes are now actually interactive. Quite what this means we're not yet sure but for those who were never a fan of the lengthy cut-scenes, you should probably rejoice.

Assuming what we've seen so far represents the level of effort and excellence we can expect in the finished article, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker may just be one of the handheld highlights of 2010 and a must-own title for all PSP gamers.

Now, where did we put our bandanas?
