Jump Games signs deal for six Red Devils titles in 2008

Kicking off a glut of Manchester United mobile games

Indian publisher Jump Games has announced its expansion into Europe with a zinger of a deal: it's making six official Manchester United mobile games this year, kicking off with Manchester United Word It!

Jump hasn't revealed much about the game itself yet, but from the title we're guessing it might be a trivia game or wordy puzzler, rather than a full football sim.

My educated guess is that none of the six games will involve players 'interacting' with Harvey Nichols shop assistants at boozy Christmas parties either. But you never know.

Man Utd's manager Alex Ferguson is happy anyway. At tonight's launch in London, he sent a video message saying,"Manchester United, all of us, are delighted in our new arrangement with Jump Games. I think it's a fantastic venture. And to all our fans all over the world it's an opportunity to get yourselves involved in it."

It's not the first time Man Utd have dipped their toes in the mobile gaming market. A few years ago, the club had a deal with UK developer Macrospace (now part of Glu Mobile), which released several themed games.

Jump Games is one of the sponsors of this week's Mobile Games Forum in London too, so we're hoping to grab them for a play on Manchester United Word It! to see how it's shaping up. Watch this space...
