Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier takes its turn on DS

Pocket Gamer writers regroup for a different attack on the story

Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier takes its turn on DS

Nobody in this world is perfect. Not Zinedine Zidane. Not Tony Blair or George Bush. Not even Angelina Jolie. Heck, once in a blue moon even we enlightened souls (yep, that's us) at Pocket Gamer get it wrong.

And one of those terrible occasions occurred last week.

Rather than hiding in our rooms and sniffling, we're now going to put the record straight to tell you that whilst fantasy RPG Mage Knight: Apocalypse will indeed have amazing sound features, they will sadly only be heard on the PC. Sorry if you were confused by our original take on matters.

In reality, the similarly named game venturing forth onto DS, Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier, is a deeply strategic turn-based game centred on the best-selling collectable miniature product from WizKids Games.

Indeed, the complex ruleset borrowed from the tabletop game along with the ability to create and command your own custom army (you can deploy over 90 different types of unit) has given developer Big Blue Bubble the confidence to describe it as: "the most strategic turn-based game to be offered on the Nintendo DS to date". (Take that, Advance Wars!)

The game also promises to be as wide as it is deep, with more than 80 maps (taking in everything from villages and forests to mountains and icy plains) to fight over, as you battle to resist the evil Solonavi and restore peace to the land.

Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier is waging war on US retailers right now. It will no doubt be planning an assault on these shores – if not on this red-faced journalist – very soon.
