According to a study by Distimo, apps on the Mac App Store cost on average seven times more than their iPhone counterparts, and three times more than iPad.

The average cost of a Mac application is $11.21, with iPhone and iPad apps costing $1.57 and $4.19 respectively.

The survey revealed some other interesting facts.

For example, only one in eight apps on the Mac App Store is free of charge, with games comprising 29 per cent of all submissions. However, if you look at the most popular Mac apps, games make up 39 per cent.

Finally, based on a two month post-launch window, the Mac App Store has just 2,225 applications versus the iPad's 8,099.

With the forthcoming release of Mac OS X Lion and the evident increase in iOS ports and cross-platform action, these numbers will presumably rise.
