The Mobile Entertainment Awards for 2010, an annual look at the best in the business for apps, ads and games in the portable space, has given Chillingo the prize for best Games Company.

It was the fifth annual ME Awards, as over 300 professionals in the field descended upon the Royal Garden Hotel in London for the prestigious ceremony.

Chillingo beat out seasoned powerhouses like EA and Gameloft, despite being almost anonymous a year ago. But the overwhelming success of Rovio’s Angry Birds and ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope put the publisher on the map. For that reason, Chillingo was scooped up by EA to the tune of $20 million last month.

Unity, the 3D graphics engine used in games like Rimelands: Hammer of Thor and Air Attack HD, also took away a lump of glass. The San Francisco based company took home 'Best Games Service Provider'.

And GetJar, the download service for multiple mobiles that propelled the Android version of Angry Birds to two million downloads, won 'Best App Store'.

Other winners included Facebook, Spotify, Foursquare and HTC. See the entire list at Mobile Entertainment.
