Nokia has used its keynote speech at Nokia World in London to officially announce its long-awaited first Windows Phone handset: the Lumia 800.

As expected, the Lumia 800 is based on the N9 in terms of design, is available in three different colours, and packs a Carl Zeiss f.28 lens.

The Lumia 800's AMOLED ClearBlack screen measures a reasonable (by today’s standards) 3.7 inches, while inside beats the heart of a 1.4GHz single-core processor from Qualcomm.

On top of the usual Windows Phone Mango features like LiveTiles, Xbox Live support, and multitasking, Nokia’s Lumia range of phones - including the Lumia 800, of course - will ship with a number of apps unique to the company’s devices.

In the mix

In terms of entertainment, you can tune in to full-length radio mixes that require no subscription and can be listened to offline, while ESPN provides sports reports on all your favourite athletic endeavours across the world.

Of importance to everyday use is the integration of Nokia Drive, making the Lumia series “the only Windows Phone to have full voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation”, while 25GB of free SkyDrive complements the 16GB internal storage.

Also revealed briefly at Nokia World was the Lumia 710, which sports the same processor, screen size, and software, but features a more conventional curved design.

The Lumia 710 appears targeted at those that like to customise their phones, as it has a replaceable backplate with colours based on the various Windows Phone themes available.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is already available for pre-order from the official Nokia website, and will arrive in the UK mid-November, while the Lumia 710 is scheduled for release in "early 2012".
