The Lord of the Rings Tactics bring Middle-earth to PSP

EA gets more Precious

It’s done the films but now EA is expanding its take on The Lord of the Rings. A new deal means it will now be able to create games based on other characters, locations and events within the huge Middle-earth universe written by Oxford professor JRR Tolkien.

As part of this deal, the first details about EA’s debut The Lord of the Rings game for PSP have been released. Currently known as The Lord of the Rings Tactics, as the working title suggests, it’s a strategy game that lets you take control either of the Fellowship or the forces of the Shadow. Working on a turn-based system, you will control a group of characters fighting your way through the badlands of Middle-earth. As well as loads of combat, you’ll also be able to do things such as setting up ambushes or getting tactical advantage by seizing high ground. It will then be up the enemy to counter with their battle moves.

You’ll also be able to create your own customised characters based on the various races in Middle-earth, such as hobbits, elves and men. As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to upgrade their skill levels as well as collecting items and magical abilities. And there’ll be a four-way multiplayer mode using the PSP’s wi-fi too, so you can pit your battle-hardened heroes against those of your mates.
