Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe the latest veteran to turn to Kickstarter to remake a classic

25 years later and he still hasn't settled down

Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe the latest veteran to turn to Kickstarter to remake a classic

Way back in 1987, Al Lowe brought the world Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, a game in which a feckless 40-something tries every cheesy trick in the book to seduce women.

The irreverent game won a cult following, but its heyday didn't last long.

Lowe's last contribution came in 1996, and with two flops in the franchise following his departure, fans of Sierra's tongue-in-cheek dating romp assumed Leisure Suit Larry had met his Waterloo after the unmitigated disaster that was 2009's Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.

If I said you had a beautiful body...

Now, however, Lowe has re-acquired the rights to produce a Leisure Suit Larry game of his own and has decided to reboot the franchise - assuming his Kickstarter campaign raises enough cash.

The HD remake Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards is just another example of a creator turning to crowdsourcing to fund a game without the involvement of a production company.

But with 26 days to go before the project needs to meet its $500,000 goal, things are looking good. At time of writing, it's raised over $190,000.

The two high roller $50,000 options, gaining you a weekend in Vegas with the creators, or your name as the game's secret password, remain unbought, though.

Should the goal be exceeded, the development team (Al Lowe, Josh Mandel, Sabine Duvall, and Leslie Balfour) will bring the reboot Leisure Suit Larry game to XBLA, PSN, Mac, Linux, and a full suite of mobile platforms (Android, iOS devices, Kindle, and Windows phones).

You can find out more at the Kickstarter page.
