The Empire Strikes Brick

LEGO Star Wars comes to the handhelds, as series goes back to the source

The Empire Strikes Brick

Combining the world’s most played toy with its most popular sci-fi films and adding a dash of irreverent humour certainly worked well once – LEGO Star Wars has sold over three million copies to date. And with the original Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi still up for the special LEGO treatment, the juggernaut rolls on in LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.

For the first time, versions will be released for PSP, DS and GameBoy Advance (alongside four other TV-based consoles), and while there’s not much news yet available – the game won’t be released until the autumn – we do know there are some cool new features on the way.

Vehicles and creatures you can control are promised, which will excite those with an AT-TT walker or speeder bike fixation. There will also be plenty of new characters to see – we can’t wait for the LEGO version of Jabba the Hut.

Star Wars purists might be shocked to hear that once you’ve played through each film in order, you’ll be able to take the characters you’ve unlocked back into films they didn’t originally appear in. Further customising will be on offer in the Free Play mode, where you’ll be able to mix and match the body parts of over 50 characters to create your own strange hybrids.

We'll use our Jedi mind tricks to secure more information from LucasArts as soon as we can.
