Korean manufacturer LG has unveiled the world's first 5-inch full HD LCD display, which crams in a whopping 440 pixels per inch. More than the screen on either Apple's iPhone 4S or Samsung's flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, in other words.

LG's brand-new LCD panel utilises Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS) technology alongside a resolution of 1920x1080. Basically, you get a full HDTV experience on a 5-inch screen.

LG's impressive display can't be found on any devices just yet, but handsets sporting that display should be available in the latter half of this year.

Naturally, Apple is also expected to release a new smartphone sometime in 2012, so it's unclear just how long LG will remain top dog for in this department.
