South Korean firm LG has officially announced two new Android handsets aimed at the mid-range of the market.

The Optimus One (pictured left) and Optimus Chic (pictured right) will both run on the latest version of Android, 2.2 or FroYo.

The Optimus One is described by LG as “Building a Newer, Better Smartphone Experience,” while the Optimus Chic is the “Best Smartphone for Style-Conscious Buyers.”

That sounds like a convoluted way of saying “style or substance,” but both handsets will feature 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreens powered by 600MHz processors. While the Optimus One features more internal memory – 170MB to the Optimus Chic’s 150MB – the latter will boast a superior five-megapixel camera to the former’s three-megapixel version.

“LG has a vision of helping people access information fast and easily, no matter where they are.” Said Skott Ahn, CEO and president of LG Mobile Communications Company. “We believe the Optimus series will play a significant role in accomplishing our vision.”

The Optimus One is headed for an October European launch, while the Optimus Chic is set to arrive in November.
