Hudson Soft lays seige to iPad with Knights of the Phantom Castle
Spritely RPG battler
Still best known for Bomberman, Japanese publisher Hudson Soft (which is owned by Konami), has released its first iPad game.
A sprite-based strategy RPG featuring huge armies and gigantic monsters, in Knights of the Phantom Castle you have to build up your force of knights during the Camp phase of the game, before deciding on your tactics and equipment during Combat Deployment.
Next comes the Stage Battle phase, where you get to move your forces around the battlefield, overcoming the enemy one melee unit at a time until you’re head to head with each local boss.
And as you fight your way through the 50 stages, you'll be able to level up your characters, as well as having the option to forge new weapons. Different equipment affect your characters' skill, of course, and there are six basic classes too.
Controls are simple using tap, flick and drag commands, while you can simultaneously direct several units on the iPad using multi-touch.
Knights of the Phantom Castle is out now for iPad, priced $9.99, €7.99 and £5.99. It will released for iPhone and iPod touch in future.
