Last year it emerged that Kirby Super Star Deluxe, a remake of the SNES game Kirby Super Star, was coming to DS in Japan.

Now, at E3, Nintendo has announced the pink gluttonous blob is coming to the US too, just with a slight name change to Kirby Super Star Ultra. It's also released first screenshots of the game (see right).

The game is made up of several smaller games, each with their own plot. Most of the modes are traditional adventures, while a few - such as Megaton Punch and Samurai Kirby - are quick mini-games. There are also three new touch-screen-controlled mini-games that can be played with up to three friends via DS Download Play - Kirby Card Swipe, Kirby on the Draw and Snack Tracks.

On top of the game's new adventures though, the original modes from the SNES are all present and correct, just with updated graphics and fully rendered movie scenes.

As ever Kirby will be able to run, float and fight his way through the game, gobbling up enemies as he goes. Inhaling enemies then spitting them out gets you stars and swallowing them lets you copy their abilities. Kirby can also create Helpers out of Copy Abilities. These Helpers will then fight alongside you while being controlled either by the CPU or another player.

For a dose of retro mini-games on your DS, look out for Kirby later this year. On September 22nd in the US to be exact and we're expecting a European release date will follow. We'll have more on the little pink fella as more information comes in.
