Amazon Kindle Fire to boast dual-core processor, Prime Instant Video, Whispersync for movies

Amazon's Jeff Bezos has today unveiled the company's latest tablet computer, the Kindle Fire, on stage at a New York press conference.

The tablet will retail for just $199 and come packing a dual-core processor, a 7-inch Gorilla Glass display, wi-fi, and the Android operating system.

In terms of content, the Kindle Fire will have access to a range of Amazon's services, such as Prime Instant Video - a service that will play host to 11,000 commercial-free movies and TV shows at no additional cost.

Futhermore, the company's Whispersync technology - which allows you to read books across multiple devices without losing your progress - will work with both movies and TV shows.

"What if Whispersync also worked with movies and TV Shows? Well, it does. When you get home, switch to your big screen TV. Your movie will be right where you left it."

17 million songs, the Amazon Appstore, and access to Kindle's range of books and magazines will also be available.

Naturally, the upcoming tablet will be able to handle a range of games, with Amazon using Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja as an example.

Plants vs Zombies and Angry Birds have also both been confirmed, but the Kindle Fire will presumably have access to all games in the Amazon Appstore so that's not necessarily a surprise.

Finally, the tablet will pack a feature called Dynamic Split Browsing, which will see your web browser render content both locally and remotely to improve performance and speed.

A UK price and release date is yet to be revealed, but we'll keep you updated.
