When you're rolling a ball containing a monkey across a rope bridge, the last thing you need is for everything to suddenly go black, yet this is exactly what happens to perhaps as many as one person a month thanks to a deadly combination of two factors. 1) rolling a ball with a monkey in it is what you have to do in iPhone game Super Monkey Ball, and 2) sometimes iPhone batteries run out.

Well, owners of the new iPhone 3G can rejoice, because a company called mophie is just about to release a device called the 'Juice Pack,' which supplements the iPhone's battery life with a whopping 350 hours of standby time, six hours of 3G talk time, 12 hours of 2D talk time, six hours of 3G internet, eight hours of video playback, or 28 hours of audio playback.

The Juice Pack already exists for the iPhone and iPod touch, and its reception has been broadly positive. It doesn't look too bulky, either, adding very little to the iPhone's already substantial dimensions.

It also provides protection from short circuits, over-heating, and over-charge, as well as connecting to your computer via USB passthrough so that you can sync and charge with minimum inconvenience.

And now, a few words from Ross Howe, Sales and Product Development Director for mStation/mophie. "Since its debut, power users of the iPhone 3G have demanded a product that will boost battery life for extended on-the-go use. Juice pack 3G delivers this exceptional battery enhancement while keeping the unique style and feel of the iPhone intact."

Ross Howe would say that, of course. It's his job. Nonetheless, the Juice Pack looks like a fairly nice bit of kit. It's coming in September, and will cost $99.95, which, as any idiot knows, is about fifty quid.
