Jenga gets its own mobile game

We're gonna rock around the blocks with this one

Jenga gets its own mobile game

I-play has snapped up the rights to make a mobile game based on Jenga, the popular brick-stacking game. Y'know, the one where you have to pull bricks out of a tower and plop them on top without knocking it over.

The mobile game won't be out until sometime in the first half of 2008 though, so don't get excited just yet. It'll follow the release of console and handheld versions of Jenga this Christmas.

Details? I-play says the mobile game will have a wide variety of game modes, including the ability to play against the clock, and unlock new features. They're hoping it will capture Jenga's Edge-of-Your-Seat Fun (TM). (Yes, Jenga really has trademarked that phrase.)

We're not entirely sold on the idea. Surely the physical aspects of Jenga – pulling bricks out and delicately dangling them about – will be lost in the transition to mobile? It's the same reason a straight Rubik's Cube mobile game doesn't appeal.

Then again, Jenga could be tailor-made for quickfire multiplayer games over the network – matches only last a couple of minutes, so it'd be perfect for going online, battling someone, and then having some kind of global Jenga rankings.

I-play will reveal all in due course, we're sure, so click 'Track It!' to be sent alerts whenever we cover mobile Jenga.
