Free mobile game site MobileRated has announced the results ofits developer contest, which ran from last October until the end of March. The aim was to find the most popular free game on the site, judged by the number of downloads.

And the winner is... Jamtris. It's a Tetris clone developed by Jamos Games, and it beat off competition from a number of professional developers.

Creator Tomas Larsson says it's an open-source game, and reckons the feedback from MobileRated users will ensure he develops future versions of Jamtris.

Congratulations to Tomas, obviously. But it's a bit of a damp squib to see a Tetris clone winning this kind of a contest as opposed to something more original. Admittedly, with the real Tetris continuing to sell millions of paid-for downloads, it's perhaps no surprise that a free version is also popular.

MobileRated says that the closest rivals in the competition were Bomber, Doom 3D, Underground Racer and Sud0ku, providing more insight into what games we like to download when they're free.
