Publisher Empire Interactive has announced it will be bringing Jagged Alliance to DS some time in 2009.

The part strategy game, part role-playing game is based on the PC series, which began in 1994. The personable game gives you control over a selection of mercenaries, each with their individual characters, plus squads, in a fight against enemy soldiers to liberate the Island of Metavira.

As descibed enthusastically by James Spice, Empire's vice president: "Jagged Alliance provides an exciting blend of RPG and turn based action, which has already won fans and accolades worldwide. The time is right to bring its frenetic battles to Nintendo DS and allow a brand new audience the experience the exhilarating game play."

Not only has Empire spoken about the game - which is in development with Strategy First and Cypron Studios - it has also released first screenshots too (see above). No doubt more information will become available on how the new DS version will play and how it differs to the PC original soon. Click 'Track It!' to be kept up to date.
