Iron Man 2 flying onto DS and PSP
The metal marvel due to hit with the box office sequel
The Iron Man movie really broke the mould, being a successful and entertaining comic-to-film adaptation, although the mobile, DS and PSP conversions didn't fly quite so high.
Anyway, Marvel Studios and Sega are already suiting up Tony Stark once again, with a DS and PSP sequel planned to coincide with the box office release next April.
“We are thrilled to build on the success of the Iron Man phenomenon and work with Marvel and Paramount on another epic project,” says Simon Jeffery, president of Sega of America. “Sega and Marvel are collaborating closely to ensure we deliver an authentic Iron Man experience.”
Iron Man 2 promises new levels of destruction and fighting, including the addition of kung fu-based hand-to-hand combat. The game script is being penned by Marvel scribe and Eagle-winning writer Matt Fraction, who's worked extensively on the Invincible Iron Man comic.
"The first Iron Man film raised the awareness of this popular comic hero to new heights in Europe," says Gary Knight, Sega's European marketing director (who is presumably unaware that the comic book has been popular in Europe for more than 45 years).
"We are excited to be working with Marvel again on this second iteration and having Matt Fraction on board to create a truly original script for the game means fans are in for a treat!"
Roll on April 2010.
