Would a game by any other name look as sweet?

Project Sword, the visually impressive action role-playing game from Epic Games, has been renamed Infinity Blade.

In development at Epic Games subsidiary ChAIR Entertainment, the upcoming iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad adventure puts you on a quest to defeat the powerful and mysterious God-King.

Swing an edge

That's the extent of what we know about the story, though we know a little more about gameplay.

Based on a demo of the game during a presentation hosted by Apple in September, producer Donald Mustard provided a glimpse at the head-to-head battle system, which features turn-based combat against massive beasts (as you can see in the new screenshots above).

Multiplayer battles are planned via Game Center, although the precise setup has yet to be revealed.

Still unknown is the nature of the game's role-playing. Experience points will be awarded for battle victories, which can then be used for upgrades. It's unclear if these upgrades relate to core attributes, new abilities, or weapons and armour.

Infinity Blade will be available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad; Epic Games promises to announce a release date - expected before the end of 2010, and price "soon."
