BRAZIL Throat Detonator (MusiGames)

VS SWEDEN Ramp Champ (The Iconfactory)

Five-times world football champs, Brazil, aren’t normally considered a one-man band. Sure, Pelé was pretty special back in the day, but even he had some notable support in 1970 from Jairzinho, Tostão, Gérson, and Carlos Alberto.

MusiGames, then, is the exception to this rule, for all three of the Samba Boys’ iPhone app entries at the Pocket Gamer World Champs were developed by the Recife-based studio.

Looking to light up the Bath evening sky after Leds!’ incredible 5-0 destruction of Ireland, Throat Detonator arrived at the ground in good voice.

On this occasion, Sweden provided the opposition in the perfectly round shape of skee ball variant Ramp Champ.

Would MusiGames record back-to-back wins or could the The Iconfactory’s new twist on an old boardwalk game ramp up the pressure to breaking point?

Kick Off: 7.30pm, 20th June

The critical view: Once the pendants had been exchanged, the coin tossed to decide kick-off, and the referee’s watch synced with iTunes, this battle of yellow vs yellow was underway.

Fancy flicks were generally considered the exclusive preserve of the Brazilian footballing elite, yet here was Ramp Champ demonstrating otherwise. The Scandinavian side was also impressing the resident critics with its four levels across the back and intricately constructed puzzles.

Frequently, the Throat Detonator’s three chapters upfront tried to get involved in the action, but their demands simply didn't resonate with the colleagues behind.

Oddly for a Brazil team, MusiGames’ voice-activated charges couldn’t find any rhythm throughout the first period, resorting instead to lumping the Adidas pig’s bladder up the park indiscriminately - some wag in the commentary box was even heard to sing "It's just like watching England".

With only two minutes to half-time, the referee awarded a controversial free-kick to the South Americans, dishing out a pair of virtual yellow tickets to Ramp Champ.

It didn’t take long for the Swedes to redeem their coupons, though, as just when the Brazilians thought they'd managed to weather the storm, two quick fire goals in 1st half injury time from a clown and a space invader left Brazil battered and bewildered at the break.

Half time: Brazil 0 – 2 Sweden The Fans’ 45: The Brazilian faithful don't often find their heroes behind in a footballing contest and Throat Detonator's predicament left the carnival-loving crowd temporarily stunned on the wi-fi-equipped beaches of Rio.

Fortunately, inspiration was provided by MusiGames' OpenFeint integration, as Brazil's tricky wing-back shimmied into the box and larruped home from 15 yards.
As the Samba songs increased in volume, Sweden was hanging on for dear life, its followers nowhere to be seen in iStadium. Almost inevitably, Throat Detonator's constant pressure told, one of its three difficulty settings turning in a rebounded shot to grab a share of the spoils.

Though the Swedes would be disappointed not to have sealed all three points after their first half display, in truth both sides will be happy with their position, sitting on four points before the final group matches. Full time: Brazil 2 – 2 Sweden
