Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, say DS fans

You too can be a Japanese pop duo for a day

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, say DS fans

Fans of Metroid: Hunter and GTA: Liberty City Stories look away now – the bubblegum punk of Puffy AmiYumi is coming to the DS.

Originally two flesh-and-blood soft-rocking J-Pop starlets, Ami and Yumi are better known by their Cartoon Network alter-egos, who regularly strut their cell-framed stuff on the TV network's Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi show.

Their upcoming incarnation for DS, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp, is billed as a 'rock'n'roll brawler' – you'll use a guitar displayed on the DS' lower-touchscreen to defeat enemies on the top screen.

Confused? Think the infamous fatal Rolling Stones gig at Altamont meets Top of the Pops. Er, well maybe not.

The Genie and the Amp set also includes quirky mini-games of the knock-up-some-sushi-for-the-cat variety, fans to be won who reward you with popularity points and gifts, and shops where you can upgrade your guitar. And fittingly, you and a friend can fight over who gets to be Ami, or indeed Yumi, in the two-player wi-fi mode.

Perhaps it will make more sense when Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: Kaznapped arrives on the GBA in May. Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp for the Nintendo DS should be ready to rock by September.
