Lap up some cat-based mini-games later this year

Hello Kitty Big City Dreams kitsches it up on DS

It's not rare for us to receive screenshots of a DS game that look like they've been dipped in bubblegum pink Dulux paint – the handheld is, after all, home to probably the most horse, pet and baby-based games ever seen on a games console.

But Hello Kitty Big City Dreams should receive an award for just how cutesy it looks. Big, slightly boss-eyed characters? Check. Cats with teeny little arms waddling down pink streets? Check. No machine guns or decapitating of zombies here? Check.

The game has been announced by publisher Empire and is due out later this year. The basic idea behind it seems to be that the game's heroine, Kitty White, is leaving her home in Sanrio Town to make her mark in The Big City. She moves into a simple apartment (read: dingy hole) on the bottom floor but dreams of the day she can move up to the luxurious penthouse. Yes, your goal is to help Kitty work her way up to that penthouse by exploring the city, making friends, helping others and working.

All of these tasks are essentially translated into the experience via the medium of mini-games and you'll need to play through lots of them to make Kitty as happy as a cat mainlining on catnip.

It looks a little bit like the Tamagotchi Connection Corner Shop games to our eyes and we should have more for you on Hello Kitty nearer to the game's release later in the year.
