UK iPhone publisher Chillingo is making the most of GDC. As well as announcing a raft of new titles such as Touch KO and top-down shooter Circuit Strike One - and many more - it's also putting a twist on tower defence games with Hardgore.

As the title suggests this promises to be a somewhat surreal take on the genre, set as it is in a world of penguins, gremlins, sheep, and Santa Claus.

The goal, of course, is to protect them and your peaceful village from an unending line of nasty assaulting forces by placing and upgrading various types of defences, depending on the direction and formations of your attackers.

"Nothing raises my flag more than the cream of iPhone gaming. Without a doubt, Hardgore is the pinnacle of tower defence games!" commented a completely unbiased Chris Byatte, Chillingo's co-founder and MD. "Our tower defence game with its super smart AI and interstellar look and feel sets new standards".

Developed by Mountain Sheep, Hardgore is due for release in the autumn.
