Rumour: HTC making a 5-inch 1080p phablet
|

Fresh rumours suggest that HTC might be preparing a beast of a phablet (phone / tablet hybrid) with a 5-inch full HD display.

Said device will reportedly sport an unusual 1794x1080 resolution screen, which puts it well above the 720p displays we're seeing in current HTC handsets such as the One X.

The news of this potential Samsung Galaxy Note botherer comes from DigiTimes. Wait! Come back!

We know that the Taiwanese industry rumourmonger is hardly a reliable source at the best of times, but these rumours may have some basis in fact.

It's a mystery

As The Verge points out, there is an existing GLBenchmark result from a mystery device with just such a distinctive resolution. So, someone's definitely made a device rather like this.

Also, the device that produced this benchmark score was running on a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 CPU with an Adreno 320 GPU. That's the kind of meaty hardware you'd need to push all those pixels around smoothly.

We still wouldn't cancel any plans to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 just yet, but definitely keep an eye on the site for more news on this rumoured HTC phablet.
