HTC's 1.5 GHz Flyer Android tablet to come with OnLive cloud gaming integration
Console games on the go
HTC has unveiled its new 7-inch Android tablet, the HTC Flyer.
More of a large smartphone than a tablet, the device runs Android Gingerbread complemented by HTC's Sense software for its 3D homescreen.
The most interesting news in terms of gaming is that the device comes with cloud-based streaming service OnLive integrated.
The HTC Flyer promises to deliver the first true OnLive experience on a tablet, letting you stream full console games on the move. It also allows you to "pipe the OnLive service through the HTC Flyer tablet's broadband wireless" to your TV.
An OnLive Viewer app is available for iPad, but - as the name suggests - it lets you watch games rather than play them.
In terms of specifications, the Flyer packs a pretty standard 7-inch, 1024x600 LCD screen, with a 5MP camera on the back, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. It runs a 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Interestingly, the tablet breaks the recent trend for finger-operated touchscreens, opting instead to use a stylus. It implements 'Scribe technology' to recognise handwriting, and the stylus has two buttons which allow you to erase or select text.
HTC hasn't confirmed a price yet, but the Flyer is slated for release in some time in spring.
