We've not heard much buzz coming from Samsung's recently launched application store, which went live in mid-September, but the mobile manufacturer has been doing a lot of work in getting some attention away from the iPhone and back toward mobile gaming.

And apparently it's paying off.

Korean publisher Com2Us has been in touch to tell us about its success with the rather strange golf game GrandPar Golf, which has been hogging the number one spot on the Samsung app store for the past five days.

This 3D golf game isn't content to just offer up a simulation of 18 holes.

Instead, it adds in a surreal character development, as your golfing avatar - an old man - gets younger and younger as you progress through the game by winning rejuvenation points.

Kind of like Benjamin Button in Pringle.

GrandPar Golf still takes its sporting aspects seriously, though, with 162 courses and 42 outfits, allowing for lots of customisation as you work your way toward the 19th hole.

Unfortunately, by the time you get there you'll probably be too young to drink.

You can see what's going down in terms of Samsung games over at the Samsung Application Store.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
