We know the retro look is in right now, but it's just possible that the PSP is taking things a little too far with the veritable slew of classic titles from the 80s and 90s that are being remixed, collected and compiled for portable consumption.

Gradius Collection is the latest to leap onto this bandwagon, packing over 20 years of Gradius celebration into a five game compilation. The collection brings together the first four arcade games (Gradius I-IV) along with the previously unseen Gradius Gaiden.

Each game delivers the frantic, scrolling shoot 'em up action that fans have come to know and love with more power-ups, wild weaponry and insane enemy bosses than you can shake a plasma laser at.

In keeping with Gradius Collection's celebration of the popular series, the PSP title also features media elements taken from the Gradius games in the form of movies and music tracks and players can also fiddle with the orientation of the screen between original and widescreen PSP format.

Will this be the retro collection that's worth saving up all your ten pences for? We're aiming to bring you a review in time for the September release to help you decide.
