Nintendo have a long history with VR, jumping into virtual reality with both feet all the way back in 1995 with a 3D virtual reality console called the Virtual Boy. It was truly ahead of its time.

Unfortunately, it was too far ahead of its time and gave most customers headaches and severe virtual reality sickness. So it sank largely without a trace, a punchline to a thousand jokes.

Luckily, this underdog story (because I'm decided it's an underdog story, involving Nintendo and their poor unloved Virtual Boy headset) has a positive twist in the tale.

The-King-of-Spain, sadly the name of a redditor and not an actual Spanish monarch, has created a Virtual Boy emulator for Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard which makes the games not just playable, but enjoyable.

He took to Reddit to share his thoughts: "After about 30 minutes of play time, I'm not experiencing any of the Virtual Boy's trademark motion sickness.

There's also something to be said for playing the games in grayscale instead of the headache-inducing red," he wrote. If you want to try it yourself, and you've actually got the console and games you want to play to cover yourself legally, he's provided detailed instructions in his Reddit post.

Jake's love of games was kindled by his PlayStation. Games like Metal Gear Solid and Streets of Rage ignited a passion that has lasted nearly 20 years. When he's not writing about games, he's fruitlessly trying to explain Dota 2 to anyone that will listen.
