Personally, I’m not really into sports. Most sports can be boiled down to chasing different types of balls around different types of fields, but if the gladiatorial arenas were still running, I might be tempted to nip along for a bag of jaguar’s earlobes and to watch the match.
The Games are unlikely to appear on Sky Sports anytime soon, of course, though we have got Gladiator Manager II to fill the gap. This is a rather satirical, yet amusing take on the sporting management genre that’s proven so popular lately, and puts you in charge of a team of fantastical sporting warriors.
Your gladiators range from minotaurs to knights and hobbits, all battling it out to get to the top of a sword and sorcery league championship. There are 36 different gladiator classes in total, each with their own attributes and skills, along with six different spells and weapons classes to tailor your gladiatorial team to take on the competition more effectively.
If you’re looking for a taster, the first Gladiator Manager game is now free, though the sequel seems to have made some pretty significant improvements over the original.
