Augmented reality can be a very useful tool for the gadget-savvy traveller. Simply point the iPhone's camera at just about any major city and you can find out where the nearest restaurant, ATM machine, or tube station is in real time.

But developer A Different Game is using the technology to power a paranormal adventure. Ghostwire is filled with spectres and their haunting ground is your bedroom, your kitchen, or your back garden.

We spoke to Tom Söderlund from Swedish developer A Different Game, who told us that Ghostwire for iPhone and Android is "not confirmed to be released nor in production, but it's something we're planning".

The game would be a "slightly different game" from the DSi version, because the developer can't pull off the same motion tracking on the mobile devices. "Instead," says Söderlund, "we would use GPS, compass, and accelerometer for the augmented reality effects.

"Because of this, we would really like to expand on the use of the GPS and incorporate more location-based features than Ghostwire DSi."

A Different Game currently has no plans to release the game on any other platforms. Ghostwire on DSi will be released as a boxed game on Halloween 2010.
