Android version of Halfbrick's Age of Zombies goes free on GetJar Gold
Still $3.30 on Android Market
A free app store for all mobile platforms, but mainly Android and Symbian, GetJar has built its reputation launching games such as Angry Birds and Cut The Rope before they've appeared on the official Android Market.
Now, however, it's upping its game with GetJar Gold.
This is a channel on the website that's reserved for high quality games and apps which are available paid on Android Market and Amazon Appstore, but are free on GetJar.
The first games to be made available in his way are Halfbrick's Age of Zombies ($3.30 on Android Market) and Neon Play's Paper Glider (99c).
Other available apps include TuneIn Radio Pro (99c), Solo ($4.08) and Splashtop Remote Desktop ($4.99).
Giving it awayNew content will be added daily, and with 30 million active monthly users, GetJar reckons it's going to give away millions of dollars worth of apps.
"We are able to develop programs like GetJar Gold because of our open and free business model," said Ilja Laurs, GetJar's CEO.
He also highlighted that the channel would only be available for Android content.
"We regret that at this time we cannot extend our program to iPhone users, as Apple runs a closed ecosystem that does not allow for competing app distributors like GetJar," he explained
"Unfortunately, iPhone users will have to continue paying for the very same apps that their Android counterparts enjoy for free."
