When it comes to making the world's most widely syndicated comic strip into a game, it would seem an unlikely scenario that places you within a fat tabby cat's nightmares – especially ones that don't involve next door's dog. But Gamefactory has different ideas about what makes a dream title, as its game places Garfield in a sleepy food-filled horror.

Your mission in Garfield's Nightmare is to collect the four pieces of Garfield's shattered alarm clock, scattered across 16 levels, which when combined will enable him to wake from his over-indulgence.

In order to do so, you'll have to overcome various enemies, challenges and bosses, which in a Mario-esque style are spread through themed platform levels such as a Haunted Castle, Cloudy Realm, Kitchen Kingdom and Winter Wonderland.

You'll also have to keep Garfield's health meter high by munching on lasagne, pizza and donuts throughout. (We're sure the Health Department in its current celery and mineral water drive, would not approve.) Finally, we're promised hidden touchscreen mini-games at the end of each level.

Unique to DS, Garfield's Nightmare is due for release in March 2007. We really enjoyed Garfield on mobile (although admittedly it was more of an adventure/RPG), so fingers crossed; click 'Track It!' if you want to keep in touch.
