That should make them happy

Apple’s Game Center social gaming platform may have faced massive competition from the current leaders in this contested space - inlcluding OpenFeint, Scoreloop, and Crystal - but the service is already on the rise.

Stuart Dredge at Mobile Entertainment has run the numbers on Game Center, pairing up the number of players who have certain iOS games on their Game Center profiles with the most recent sales figures that developers have offered up.

Angry Birds leads the pack, with 1.5 million Game Center players. Still, that’s only 24 per cent of the game’s massive 6.5 million userbase. Cut the Rope, also from Chillingo, has a much more impressive attach rate: 63 per cent of the game’s million users are on Game Center.

There are some potential reasons behind the different numbers. Gamers who have already beaten Angry Birds might not want to bother loading up the game to cash in their achievements. And, more pertinently, Game Center doesn’t work on all devices.

The only concrete statistic that Dredge manages to establish is that, using Angry Birds’s figure as a base, Game Center already has a few million members.

Do you use Game Center, or are you sticking with the likes of OpenFeint and Plus+? Let us know in the comments below.
