In the year that GTA IV managed to send game critics into a tail chasing frenzy of next-gen glee, it came as a surprise to many to learn that the next Grand Theft Auto game would be coming out on the weakest of the current mainstream consoles, the DS.

Surely it would be watered down and child friendly, undermining the series’ very nature. Nope: you can sell drugs in it. Well, visually it was bound to be a horrible top down throwback to the GBA era. Or worse, a jagged and buggy 3D effort. Nope, it’s cel-shaded, and looks rather nice. Well, surely it’s going to be a slip of a thing, a mere fraction of the size of the two PSP offerings, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

According Stuart Hall of developer Rockstar Leeds, nope. In fact, GTA: Chinatown Wars is ‘far bigger’ than the two PSP games, which the studio also developed.

Moreover, it features "more odd jobs, deeper missions, and more moments of over-the-top action," as well as "huge interaction with the Rockstar Social Club [and] a massive [drug-dealing] game that would stand alone on its own."

GTA: Chinatown Wars is due out on March 17th.
