WiMAX games console to get American launch

But UK networks just aren't up to it

We got wind of the Posbro G100 WiMAX handheld console back in September and despite concerns about gaming support for the device, we were largely impressed with its DS-meets-N-Gage form factor and eyebrow raising spec sheet.

Well now, it seems the device is set to get a US release during the winter, which would mark a significant step for its Korean creators.

The G100 started out as an Iriver-branded gaming device called the G10 or WiBro but somewhere along the line has made the jump to Posbro (a subsidiary of Posdata, itself a subsidary of Korean steel maker Posco), and had a bit of a form rethink.

For those of you that don't follow 'big in Korea' mobile tech, WiMAX is essentially a long distance mobile broadband network capable of operating independently of WLAN hotspots and at blisteringly fast speeds.

But given that few British companies have yet bought spectrum space for WiMAX services and the fact that buyable spectrum space is rare, the likelihood is that the G100 won't get an official launch over here.
