Friday Freebie: N-Gage gets in on the demo action...

If it is possible to over harvest freebies, perhaps it's something we are guilty of. But it's only so we can bring smiles to all of your darling little faces, so surely the ends more than justify the means?

Either way, pickings are miserly thin this week and despite an extensive trawl through all of our typical freebie haunts (as well as a few less typical ones), we have come up as short as John McCain.

Actually, that's not true. We do have a demo for one of the most keenly anticipated N-Gage games ever, after Reset Generation, of course. That game is ONE, Nokia's pretty, pugilistic poster boy for the N-Gage's 3D capabilities.

Fortunately, the game is more than just the hair and the teeth and sports some thoroughly entertaining violence. So if games about kicking lumps out of a polygonal foe get your palms sweating, this ONE (sorry, couldn't resist) should be the ONE (sorry again) for you.

Next, we're going to do something almost completely unprecedented in the Friday Freebie's short history – we're going to skip the PSP entirely.

Gasp.

But to compensate we have something wonderful, if slightly niche, for the DS. Many's the time we have had demos on the Friday Freebie that are in Japanese, making a significant chunk of them pretty much unplayable for all but a tiny percentage of our readers. But if you're an RPG nut then you've probably heard about the Japanese-only DS phenomenon that is Mother 3 and longed to join in on the fun.

We can help you do that. Sadly, you still need to pay for an import copy of the game yourself, but this free translation of the entire game, courtesy of a dedicated fan site helpfully titled The Mother 3 Fan Translation should make playing it that much more possible.

There is a certain amount of illicit homebrew black magic necessary to get the translation up and running (explained on the site) which is something we suggest you tread with care (being that it's not at all legal and all).

And that dear friends, is all there is for now. Hopefully there'll be a much heartier spread laid out for our weekly free pocket gaming lunch next Friday. For now, be sure to give both the Demos section and the Freebie Archive a poke for anything you might have missed and don't forget to click 'Track It!' to be notified of the next instalment.
