Friday Freebie: A new PSP Media Manager, demos for DS and mobile...

| Friday Freebie

Given the consistent soggyness of the British climate, we are generally inclined to steer clear of the much overused platitude, 'When it rains it pours'. It's just a lazy turn of phrase and a painful reminder all in one – nobody wins.

But in this case it really is a necessary evil as we have the handheld gaming demo equivalent of a monsoon to drench your eager thumbs with. First, then, let's wade over to the PSP where Sony has seen fit to update the free Media Manager.

You can download it here and then anyone who does not have access to a wireless internet connection can happily access the PSP Store from within the new Media Manager via an ethernet tethered PC and side load the content from there.

Speaking of which, there isn't much in the way of new free content on the PSP Store (though if you're feeling flush, it's worth checking out some of the new paid downloads that have appeared on there this week) but if you head over to the PSP Demo Centre (where we frequently loiter like hooded youths) you will be rewarded with a demo for Hototogisu Ran. All you need to know is that it's a strategy RPG and it's all in Japanese, if you tick the necessary boxes to enjoy that sort of thing, then you know what to do.

Over on the DS, the Nintendo Channel has finally been updated (jump for joy, dance in the streets, etc). The game that has been added is the recently released, Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs so if extinct reptile pugilism is your thing (it's a niche interest everyone can enjoy) then the Nintendo Channel is officially where it's at.

As for mobiles, this week's updates to our flourishing Demos section include two offerings from the almost always awesome Digital Chocolate. They are Moto Racing Fever and the Rollercoaster Rush reskin, Ghost Train Ride, and both are well worth checking out.

As for the iPhone, the self explanatory trio of Pac-Man Lite, Touch Hockey and Maze Finger should keep your touchscreen filled with luridly bright digit twiddling fun.

That was this week's Friday Freebie, we've been Pocket Gamer. We'll do the same next week too and if you click 'Track It!' you will be guaranteed not to miss it.
