Friday Freebie: The App Store's best free games
|
| Friday Freebie

It's a red letter day here in the Pocket Gamer office, not just because our closest snack outlet finally got around to restocking its shelves with delicious Salt & Vinegar flavoured Squares, but because today is the day that those with the patience to wait in line on a cold and rainy summer's morning in the UK, can finally lay their hands on a 3G iPhone. More important than that, however, is the accompanying App Store which went live yesterday.

We should warn you that now that this fantastic resource is available, jam packed with all sorts of regularly updated free applications and games, it will likely make very regular appearances in the Friday Freebie from here on in.

Early spoils worth grabbing include Jirbo Match, Jirbo Arcade, Jirbo Says, Jirbo Avatar, Spinner Prologue, iMaze, LifeGame and T4Two Free. That's the games side, but there are plenty of practical applications, as well as a decent selection of fun distractions that don't fall into either category available for nowt, too.

We haven't had the chance to try out all of the free games yet as we've been busy covering all of the bigger commercial releases, so do let us know which of those you try stand out from the crowd.

Moving on, the PSP Store has had another update and though there are sadly no new demos to speak of (boo, hiss, etc) there is a rather intriguing new clutch of video content. Aside from the unexciting appearance of trailers for Secret Agent Clank and Kung Fu Panda (both of which you have probably already seen elsewhere) there is the addition of a hip and trendy new video travelog called Movement.

It charts the real life journeys and adventures of the comic duo Spencer and Martin as they trail across Europe, looking for the 20 best new unsigned bands. There are 16 clips available already, all of which centre on the romantic city of Paris and some of its more sordid musical denizens that occupy the city's loveably debauched counter culture underbelly. They are of course all free and are available to download now.

That's what we have for the time being. As ever, we're struggling to find DS goodies so if anyone spots anything, please let us know in the usual place (either in the comments section below or in the Freebies section of the forum). Otherwise rest assured that we will be bringing comprehensive coverage of the free DS demos available on the Wii's Nintendo channel to the Friday Freebie before very long.

In the meantime, enjoy today's bounty and be sure to click 'Track It!' to catch next week's sack of freebie delights.
