Proving our dexterity...

Friday Freebie

We once knew a pygmy horse that could sing 'Come On Eileen' by Dexys Midnight Runners while roller skating backwards. The trouble was, though there was no doubt that it was an exceedingly talented beast, with a beautiful singing voice, 'Come On Eileen' on wheels was its only trick – you might even say it was a one trick pony.

Sorry.

Still, aside from the obvious fact that we're not hoofed mammals, we aren't much like our equine friend in that we can do much more than shovel one type of freebie in your direction (i.e. demos). We have more than one trick in our repertoire.

So now that our convoluted and particularly strangled intro has finally meandered around to the point (hey, you try and find unique ways to introduce freebies, week in, week out) it's time to confess that we don't have any demos this week. But we do have lots of other stuff that you'd really need to stray off the pony track (couldn't resist) to find. As usual we have done all the trotting for you.

So on PSP we're starting with a bit of a Final Fantasy theme. A Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII motif, to be exact, in celebration of the game's imminent release. If you head over to Creative Uncut, you will be rewarded with a decent selection of hi-res Crisis Core wallpapers to decorate your PC screen with.

If that isn't enough of a fix for you, LIVEPLAYP has a lovely selection of gorgeous hi-res character renders of the sort that only Square Enix knows how to make. Admittedly neither of these freebies are things that you can use with your PSP directly, but that's where the PSP's third freebie of today comes in.

Head on over to PSP Saves and you'll find an exhaustive A-Z library of downloadable game saves (helpfully categorized by region) for PSP titles, which when copied to the correct folder on your PSP (instructions for which are detailed on the site) open up all of that content that you would otherwise have to spend hours attaining.

If you can live with the guilt of knowing that you're a low down, dirty cheating snake in the grass (honestly, we don't judge), then this is one of the best PSP finds to hit the Friday Freebie in a while and well worth investigation.

The next offering bridges the PSP and the DS nicely. In anticipation of the forthcoming release of Lego Batman (which is coming to both DS and PSP), Lego has constructed a full site dedicated exclusively to the knobbled version of the Caped Crusader which includes some appetite wetting content. In fact, if Robin were writing this he might say, "Holy web based comics, Batman!" Groan. Anyway, there are six episodes so far that will get you acquainted with the look and feel of the characters in their Lego form, with more set to arrive.

Besides that, for all of our forum members who are still without an avatar, Av-Mania Graphics has a lovely The World Ends With You set, any of which would suit someone whose loyalties lie with the DS down to the ground.

Speaking of the forum, we have, as ever, another recommendation for a title from archives of the ad-funded MobileRated, this time for Underground Racer. More details about the title, as well as a download link can be found here.

Which brings us to the end of this week's Friday Freebie, except to mention that there have been several new entries added to our Demo section for both mobiles and N-Gage (we said there were no demos this week, but we lied – we're hilarious like that) and that if that doesn't sate your insatiable appetite, our Freebie Archive is always on hand for the things you may have previously overlooked.
