Friday Freebie

Both PSP and mobile outdo themselves this week

Friday Freebie

Having taken an impromptu break last week, this week the freebie trees in the freebie groves of the internet are heavy with freebie fruit for us freebie pickers to harvest. This metaphor working for you? Us neither.

In any case, the point is we have loads of stuff for you, starting predictably with the PSP. In what must be some sort of a record there are five new PSP demos available this week, with the first three being served up by the PSP Store, which has been gradually improving content-wise over the last month or so.

Still, that doesn't mean that it isn't above cheating and as such two of the three demos are actually just 'Beginner' and 'Intermediate' variations on the same game, Everybody's Golf 2. They do justify their separate downloads, though, with Beginner offering one hole from the Nakagawa Public Golf course and Intermediate delivering three from the more challenging Central Golf Square Course.

The third demo is of The Ultimate Board Game Collection serves up some snippets of its pretty comprehensive assortment of rainy day classics. So if that's your bag, it's well worth a look.

The remaining two demos on offer are from PSP Fanboy and are both in a language other than English (hence the reason why they are absent from our own demo section). Yep, you guessed it, they are in Japanese, but given how many Japanese demos you've played by now as a result of the Friday Freebie we can only assume that you're almost fluent so it shouldn't cause much of a problem. The fact that neither Bleach: Heat the Soul 5 or Valhalla Knights 2 (thanks, as ever, HiddenAway) are especially text-heavy should also help out somewhat.

Moving on, we're going to skip over the DS (for now at least; expect coverage of the new DS demos available via the Wii's new Nintendo Channel as soon as it sees fit to load it with some content) and move onto mobiles, which have it pretty good this week, too.

Brought to our attention by forum newie, RedRock, 123Play is the new ad-funded kid on the block and judging by the glowing reports it has been receiving in our forum, it really is rather good. Stand out titles so far appear to be Worms and Movin Maze so if you're looking for a place to start, you know what to search for.

And, of course, we also have another recommendation from MobileRated. This week it's for Push Blox, which despite being another mobile puzzler with the word 'blox' in the title is also an intriguingly original concept. Full details along with the download link can be found, as ever, in our forum.

That's your lot for now. Remember, there's always the Freebie Archive, the Freebies section in the forum and our Demo section if you need a fix between now and next Friday's edition (which you can be sure not to miss by clicking 'Track It!').
