A bland week for PSP but some music to DS lovers' ears

Anyone fancy some free stuff? Stupid question, really, so let's cut the foreplay and get right into the hair and the teeth of this week's Friday Freebie.

For PSP we would suggest a predictable trek to the (unofficial) PSP Demo Center where you will find an English version of Echochrome (as opposed to last week's Japanese version), and a Japanese demo of a game called Umihara Kawase. From what we can tell the latter is a platformer about a young schoolgirl trapped in some sort of fish world and our brief Wikipedia research revealed that it's apparently a thoroughbred Japanese license from the halcyon days of the PSone – could be worth checking out.

Meanwhile, a trip to the PSP Store this week proves to be as uninspiring as last week's visit with two trailers, Ape Quest and God of War: Chains of Olympus, being the sum total of fresh content. The US PSP Store on the other hand got all sorts of cool new stuff this week… Come now, Sony, sort it out – us Europeans are getting impatient.

For the DS, we have something a bit different this week. If you're the sort of person that thinks the soundtrack to Diddy Kong Racing is the height of musical genius, then the Videogame Music Archive is almost certainly the place for you. The site is jam-packed with hundreds of MIDI files lifted straight from an assortment of classic DS titles.

Budding sample gurus should beware, however. This site is unofficial so using the MIDI files to forge some 'hip bangin' mash-ups' of your own might result in Nintendo sending Mario round to your house to jump up and down on your head for a while.

Lastly, something from our fellow freebie lovers, MobileRated. This week's recommendation is for Age of Dragons a real-time strategy effort with a mythical theme. It's pretty basic in the looks department but seeing as it is placed second on MobileRated's most popular list, we're guessing the gameplay is rock solid.

A link to the download page can be found in our forum, and while you're there do let us know what games you've been playing from MobileRated and which are your favorites.

And with that, we will bow out for another seven days to gather ourselves and make ready for a fresh assault on the unsuspecting freebie groves of the internet. As always we'll report back with our swag next Friday, so click 'Track It!' to ensure you don't miss it.
