So, you bought your mum a deluxe hamper from Harrods encrusted in Swarovski crystals, your dad a set of gold plated golf clubs and a lifetime membership at the St Andrews course, your better half a new car (a time-travelling Delorean no less), your siblings holidays in the Algarve and you even remembered to get your gran and granddad enough Marks & Spencer's vouchers to see them well into the grave. And what did you get in return? Socks, lots and lots of socks.

But fret not dear friends. If you are feeling somewhat short-changed by the festive season, we are back with our weekly Friday Freebie feature spreading generosity and costless handheld cheer the whole year round. Father Christmas, eat your heart out.

First off in 2008 you could do a lot worse than pay the PSP online Store a visit. Nestling in its pages are three new demos; SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Tactical Strike, Siphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and Wipeout Pulse. All three are grade A titles in our book so well worth the card space.

If English demos just aren't your thing however you might want to head over to the ever trusty PSP Demo Centre, which has recently added Ape Escape: Saru Saru and Dungeon Explorer Famitsu to its archive. Be sure to top up on the latest firmware before you go ploughing into all of this, and keep that Spoken Japanese Dictionary handy.

For the DS, we have something utterly below the belt and less than officially endorsed. Normally we would steer clear of these sorts of things but when it comes to StarCraft the typical rules just don't apply anymore.

The cheekily named StarLite is a homebrew port of the original StarCraft for the DS. According to the site, Starfeeder, the release is in need of a bit of work but there is a demo that's ready to download and it is completely free. If enough of you download it maybe Blizzard will finally get the message and get with an official port. Wishful thinking maybe but we have to justify supplying this link somehow.

Okay, that should tide you over for at least another seven days. Remember, if any of you are harbouring freebies that deserve sharing, our forum is lying in wait. And if you're new to the Friday Freebie, do take a minute to peruse our Freebie Archive and be sure to click 'Track It!' to receive an alert as soon as next week's batch goes live. Until then, happy freeloading.
