DS + PSP + Java ...
| Friday Freebie

It's been a whole seven days since we last treated you to a clutch of free handheld stuff. Without further ado, here's more.

The PSP was granted two more demos this week. The first was a taster of the stylish mini-game fest, Hot Pixel. Featuring one full episode comprised of ten different mini-games and a boss battle, the demo amounts to a hearty helping from the full retail game and should be more than enough to help fence sitters decide if the game is purchase worthy.

Also out this week is a second demo of SOCOM Fire Team Bravo 2 (we snaffled the first in the Friday Freebie of May 18th) courtesy of the PSP Demo Centre. Not one for those wanting to run around killing things with the hapless abandon of a psychotic toddler, but maybe worth a look for dedicated military strategists who just can't face the stigma of joining the TAs. (Our reviewer says no, mind).

Also worth a look on the PSP front are the Broken Saints episodes that are mounting up at PSP Connect. We covered the availability of this cult classic anime on PSP a while back, but since then the quantity of free episodes available has swelled considerably and deserves a repeat visit.

Not content with filling PSPs across the land to bursting point with top quality anime thrills, the lovely folks behind Broken Saints are also offering the first three episodes for free to iPod users, too.

The pristine DS, as ever, is reliant on its homebrew alter ego for freebie thrills. The cunning code mongers at Ravenworks have been beavering away on a DS version of the popular freeware PC adventure title Cave Story and after many late nights, a demo is now available. Looking good so far, it would be nice if this game got picked up for an official release one day.

Lastly, a quick reminder that UK mobile games publisher Elite Systems has launched its official WAP site, elite.mobi. The site is currently hosting a free demo of the classic shooter, R-Type; whether you are a younger gamer with a sense of heritage or a more seasoned guru looking to relive past glories, it's not to be missed.

That's it for now – we will comb the net and deliver a fresh load of goodies sans moolah next Friday. Click 'Track It!' to make sure you don't miss out.
