Friday Freebie: LittleBigPlanet PSP-flavoured love...

| Friday Freebie

Okay, so we’re a bit late with this today and the offering we have for you is meagre to say the least. In fact, meagre is too plentiful an adjective. If this week’s Friday Freebie was a meal, it’d be half a cheese sandwich (without any Branston Pickle), four peanuts and a teaspoon of flat lemonade.

Excited? Let’s dig in.

Given Sony’s impressive E3 showing and the promise of a full and regularly updated PSP Store to go with the fancy new download only PSP Go!, you’d be forgiven for thinking Sony would have made sure to start as it means to continue with enough new demos to turn your Memory Stick Pro Duo into a simpering, exhausted shadow of its former self.

You can hang on to those precious megabytes for another week, however, as apart from the odd new video, the PSP Store is quieter than the third moon of Saturn this week. In fact the only way you can get your freebie jollies from Sony this week, is by piggybacking on the PS3’s LittleBigPlanet website, which has several interactive thingummies for you to while away the hours while you wait for PSP LittleBigPlanet to be released.

There’s a Sticker Room where you can mess about with a selection of the game's various hip and funky symbols. There’s a Blueprint Room where you absolutely can’t layout anything that might be helpful when designing a level, but in which you can place various lined objects about a blue canvas. And finally, there’s the Inspiration Room in which you can potter around with some user uploaded images that are intended to spur on your train of thought.

Notice the absence of the words ‘free’ and ‘download’ throughout all of the previous three paragraphs. In all seriousness, we have been professing the PSP’s dramatic comeback (in between bouts of damning it to the deepest darkest depths of eBay hell) for ages now and all indications are that it might finally be about to come true. Expect Sony’s little handheld to be back on freebie form in the coming weeks.

As for DS and DSi, Nintendo seems to be too busy making life size paper mashie Marios out of $1,000 bills to care about us peasants, so nothing this week.

But don’t be glum, there’s always our free iPhone gaming podcast, in which you have the chance to win a £5 iTunes gift voucher every week. There’s also the Trawler Report – our tireless trudge through the soiled sawdust at the bottom of the App Store hutch. And don’t forget our Freebie Archive, otherwise known as every Friday Freebie ever written.

Just be sure to click ‘Track It!’. Next week’s bound to be better, honest.
