Friday Freebie: PSP demos of Rock Band Unplugged, Monster Hunter Freedome Unite...

The Friday Freebie is the perfect remedy for any recently disgraced MPs out there. Chances are you’ve got a bit of time on your hands if you’ve recently resigned, so some handheld gaming could be a welcome distraction from the paparazzi squatting on your lawn.

Combine that with a desire to get your hands on free stuff and the Friday Freebie has all your bases covered - you don’t even need to leave 'your' house!

Truly, we cater to all demographics.

At any rate, no matter what your reason for seeking freebie handheld gaming entertainment, we’ve got a bucket load for you this week.

First up is the PSP. Just as a warm up, you could torture yourself with the fourth demo for Yusha 30 from the PSP Demo Center which, you’ll no doubt be shocked and amazed to learn, is in Japanese.

But after you’ve flexed your digits sufficiently to take on something a little more comprehensible, you can treat yourself to free downloadable demos of Rock Band Unplugged and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite from the PSP Store.

Yep, that’s practically six month’s worth of PSP Store content by Sony’s normal standards. With the PSP’s release schedule finally starting to look compelling and full, for practically the first time in the console’s troubled lifespan, this might even be an early glimmer of things to come. It's probably a fool's hope, but we've got our fingers crossed all the same.

As for the DS, there are few signs at the moment to indicate that DSiWare is going to become the demos and freebie repository we so hoped it would, but there is at least something to enjoy this week.

With the first trailer of Ghostbusters DS released this week (and a playable version of the game surely set to grace the E3 floor next week), Atari has made good with a pretty decent site that has various nice extras.

You can play an online quiz about the history of the Ghostbusters, you can take part in an ESP test and you can play a containment grid mini-game which can earn you a free wallpaper if you get a good enough score.

There’s bound to be more content added on the run up to the game so it’s definitely worth a bookmark.

On iPhone, the kind souls at sumiguchi are accepting messages via our forums for any American readers interested in receiving a free promo code for the top down shooter Anomaly. It’s a first come first served situation, so if you fancy swagging yourself a free copy, be sure to head on over to this thread to be in with a chance.

Of course, for those of us not dwelling in the land of the brave, you can always check out The Trawler Report, our weekly free iPhone gaming podcast and the Freebie Archive for costless gaming cheer.

That’s it for now, remember to click ‘Track It!’ to be sure not to miss next week’s serving.
