Friday Freebie: An adventure game history lesson, some Patapon 2 beats and...

This week’s bounty really was earned with the sweat from our brow - it took some serious digging. We had to excavate a freebie mine that sank almost as deep as the internet’s core, past the porn, the derelict MySpace accounts and a near impenetrable crust of adverts for professional World of Warcraft power levelers. Still, we did manage to turn up some good stuff.

Many of you will have already heard that Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is coming to the DS very soon, courtesy of developer Revolution Software. Sadly we don’t have a demo for that game, but if you are willing to be open minded, we have a full copy of Revolution Software’s first game, Lure of the Temptress, up for grabs.

You'll need a PC to play it on, and though it doesn’t have anything to do with the Broken Sword series directly, it is from the same developer and should serve as a gentle introduction to Revolution Software’s charms. If you are new to the adventure genre, this is about as excellent a combined history lesson and tutorial you could hope for. Just head here, to claim your copy.

On PSP, it’s time to celebrate the imminent release of Patapon 2. And how are we going to do that? With a party, of course, and no party can even begin without music so…

By clicking on this link, you'll be taken to an embedded Quicktime file that plays the very first song from Patapon 2’s soundtrack.

By clicking on the drop-down arrow on the right hand side of the Quicktime box, you'll be given the option to ‘Save As Source’. Simply click that and sit back while one minute and thirty six seconds' worth of annoying, high-pitched Patapon themed melodies download to your computer.

We know what you’re thinking, and believe us: we would have preferred a demo of Resistance: Retribution too, but Sony it seems subscribes to a curious brand of wisdom these days and our insidious powers of suggestion can only do so much.

As for mobile, demos are scarce these days, but Jason Statham has personally seen to it that at least Death Race gets the free demo treatment - we recently saw him threatening someone from Gameloft with violence.

We didn't really.

But we did manage to find a demo version of Death Race for mobiles, and it’s currently residing in our lovely Demos section.

That’s it for now. Remember to click ‘Track It!’ to be sure not to miss next week’s edition, and as ever our Freebie Archive is always on hand for the six days of the week that the Friday Freebie isn’t. Enjoy!
