Friday Freebie: An unpronounceable Japanese PSP puzzler, some Pokemon DS handouts and...

By now you should have eaten your first mince pie of the season, and maybe even pulled your first cracker.

It might seem a little early for any of that, but then, we're in the habit of supplying a miniature Christmas every Friday, so we're hardly placed to deliver sermons on such premature merriment. Besides, we look great in a red suit with accompanying fake white beard (pot belly, model's own).

So, the PSP this week. What gifts is it bringing? Well, there's plenty to be had from the PSP Store, including a The Need for Speed Undercover wallpaper and new trailers for both Riff: Everyday Shooter and Buzz!: Brain Bender.

Sadly there are no new demos, but the PSP Demo Centre has managed to unearth a demo of a Japanese puzzler called Otsugea Uranai na Desu. No prizes for guessing that it is of niche interest, but hey, it doesn't cost a penny and trying to get your brain around puzzles is even more like good mental exercise when you have to simultaneously translate the game from a language you don't speak.

Over on the DS, we have an obsessive compulsive's fantasy just waiting to be harvested. Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia has just been launched and, typically, it has been granted an accompanying website full of extra info and, of course, downloads.

There's wallpapers and screen savers to be had, but the site makes you work for the rewards, tasking you to capture various Pokémon scattered about the site's pages in order to unlock the content. It's surprisingly good fun and if you are a Pokéfan, it should make your day (let's face it, if you are a Pokéfiend you probably only got as far as the link before you stopped reading this).

Meanwhile on mobiles we have plenty, but only for a very specific group of gamers – namely owners of LG handsets. If you head over to LGMobile's site there are loads of relatively recent mobile titles to be had and they are all free. Best among those on offer are SolaRola, Call of Duty 3, Destroy all Humans and Fight Night Round 3. There's loads more, so if you are packing one of LG's sexy little handsets you'd do well to have a look.

That's it for now. Remember, the Freebie Archives offer a near bottomless pit of salvation to those with more time than money and the Demos section is also worth a look for any Tiny Tims with itchy thumbs.

Until next week, then. And go on, be a Scrooge and click 'Track It!' to be alerted as soon the next Friday Freebie is published.
